Louie Family Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation
Overview
The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation (the Foundation) expects to award roughly $100,000 in scholarships in 2026. The exact number of awards and the size of each scholarship will be determined by the Foundation after considering factors such as available funds and the qualifications and needs of successful applicants.
Who may apply
This scholarship is intended for students who will be first-year undergraduates at a college or university in the United States during the 2026–2027 academic year. Eligible applicants include high school seniors as well as individuals who are not currently in high school (for example, students taking a gap year or adults returning to school) provided they will be incoming freshmen in fall 2026. Applicants should demonstrate strong personal achievement, academic excellence, leadership, and/or commitment to community service.
Application requirements
To be considered, an applicant must meet all of the following:
- Plan to be a freshman in the 2026–2027 academic year and expect to enroll at an accredited U.S. college or university for that same academic year.
- Hold a cumulative, unweighted GPA between 3.7 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). If your school does not use a 4.0 scale, you must convert your GPA to a 4.0 scale prior to submitting your application.
- Have a minimum SAT score of 1350 (out of 1600) or an ACT score of at least 28. If you did not take the SAT or ACT because the college you will attend in fall 2026 does not require those tests, indicate this on the application; the Foundation will confirm the school’s test-optional policy before any award is made.
- Provide at least two letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a current or former teacher of an academic subject.
- Submit the personal statement(s) described elsewhere in this application.
- Have applied to a U.S. college or university (either full-time or substantial part-time) and intend to enroll for at least two terms during the school year. A copy of the college/university acceptance letter must be provided as soon as it becomes available.
- Be willing to participate in an interview, either in person or by phone/Google Meet, if requested.
- Note: The Foundation may waive any or all of these requirements for candidates who can demonstrate exceptional adverse circumstances.
Award payment and conditions
If selected, scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution where the recipient enrolls; awards will not be disbursed to the student personally. If a recipient does not matriculate or subsequently withdraws from the institution, the Foundation will require repayment of any funds already disbursed to the school.
